Whitney Downtown Updates

The Whitney Museum recently previewed their new downtown museum to community members, unveiling new designs and renderings. Check out the coverage from Curbed including renderings and lots of new details about the museum. The Whitney Downtown will hold its official groundbreaking on May 24th, 2011 at its site behind the High Line entrance on Gansevoort Street.

Ice Skating at The Standard
This past weekend, The Standard, New York softly opened the Meatpacking District's first ever ice skating rink!Located in front of the hotel, the 3,000 square foot ice rink is open to the public 7 days a week, from 10am to midnight. The rink will be open all Winter long and features 3 types of skates to rent, as well as an "Après Skate" menu featuring hot chocolate with marshmallows, apple cider and cheese fondue.

This City Will Eat Me Alive

Check out artist Kid Zoom's temporary gallery "This City Will Eat Me Alive", at 72 Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District. Featuring paintings and a huge graffiti'd bear, the exhibit is open until December 30th. Check out pictures here.

High Line Section 2

The Friends of the High Line are making tons of progress on "Section 2" of the elevated park, to be revealed in the Spring of 2011. Section 2 stretches from 20th to 30th Streets and will feature great new spaces to play, eat, walk and more. More images and information here at the High Line Blog.
