While the MPIA helps to manage the plazas and the programming schedule, the permitting of public spaces is under the full jurisdiction of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Street Activity Permits. The MPIA will make every effort to ensure quality public programming partners that respect the diverse nature of the district.

9th Avenue Public Plazas

Public Events & Programming

The 9th Avenue Plazas are being redesigned for improved public usage, and the MPIA will encourage community interaction and utilization.

These plazas will also be programmed with events and activities, initiated by the MPIA and by others through the Mayor’s Office of Street Activity Permits (SAPO) and the Mayors Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting. The MPIA will maintain and manage these spaces year-round on behalf of NYC DOT, encouraging appropriate events and activities within them that will further the branding of the Meatpacking District as the home of all things interesting, unique and cutting edge. As the community sponsor of the plazas, the MPIA will facilitate programming for use by the public for cultural and community activities throughout the year. The provision and consumption of alcohol is not permitted within the public plazas.
