Floor 3, Susan and John Hess Family Gallery and Theater
In collaboration with Discwoman, the Whitney Museum celebrates Pride and the LGBTQ community with a performance by artist NIC Kay. They will present about love, a performance that considers the Ru Paul quote, “If you don’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?” about love is part of GET WELL SOON, a series of performances by Kay that asks how wellness can be defined outside of the neoliberal cultural economy.
Kay’s performance will be complimented by a DJ set by Ziúr inspired by the Meatpacking District’s rich queer history and current exhibitions on view at the Museum, An Incomplete History of Protest: Selections from the Whitney’s Collection, 1940–2017 and Zoe Leonard: Survey. Founded by Frankie Decaiza Hutchinson, Emma Burgess-Olson and Christine McCharen-Tran, Discwoman is a New York-based platform, collective, and booking agency that showcases and represents talent in electronic music. Started as a two-day festival in September 2014 at Bossa Nova Civic Club, Discwoman has since produced and curated events in 15+ cities, working with over 250 DJs and producers to-date.
