It could be said that violinist/vocalist/composer/arranger Mireya Ramos has been forging her path to musical success since childhood. U.S. born, Puerto Rico raised, with a music savvy Dominican mother and a Mexican, mariachi-singing father, Mireya caught the music bug early. Ramos could sing on key as a toddler, at 5 began studying violin, by 7 she was a classical voice student in the prestigious San Juan Children’s Choir. By the time Mireya celebrated her 18th birthday, she had accumulated an impressive resume, including multiple international performances with elements of cultural ambassadorship, and a stop at Carnegie Hall. Moving to New York in 1999, Mireya began playing mariachi with Mariachi Angeles de Puebla while working as session talent and making her mark as a formidable, genre-bending musician. In 2008 she founded Mariachi Flor de Toloache; New York’s first all-female mariachi band and one of the city’s most exciting bands. Nine years and a Latin Grammy nomination later, Ramos continues to build momentum and dazzle audiences with her performances.
Flor de Toloache has caught the attention of a wide, international audience, and earned a loyal fan base throughout NYC. Mireya Ramos was featured on the NY Times, NBC, CNN, HuffPo, Billboard, and Univision as the director of this innovative and unique band. As a solo performer, Mireya has also shared the stage with: Chucho Valdez, Omar Sosa, Arturo O’Farrill, Marc Anthony, Elvis Crespo, Luisito Quintero, Juan Carlos Formell, Alfredo de La Fe, El Prodigio, Ruben Albarran from Cafetacuba, soul singer Bilal and many more. Mireya has accompanied DJ’s including DJ Bobbito, DJ Rich Medina, Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Tony Touch, DJ and break-dancer Crazy Legs, DJ Velcro, DJ Carol-C (Si*Se), and DJ Sake 1, among others. She has recorded with comedian Chris Rock for his album Never Scared, El Album by Velcro, Jarana Beat, Soni featuring Raekwon 2012, Luisito Quinteros album “Navegante”.
