OUR STORY: BORN FROM YOGA, MADE FOR EVERYWEAR
Living a full, active life shouldn’t mean sacrificing style—that’s the philosophy behind Nesh NYC, a line of chic, go-everywhere clothing made to take you from studio to street.
Our founder, Bree Chambers, is a designer, a mother, and a New Yorker. But before that, she was an Iowa girl with a serious work ethic and a love of fashion. After trading Midwestern prairies for Manhattan avenues, she earned her fashion degree at Parsons School of Design and went on to design for brands such as Cynthia Rowley. To cultivate balance and calm amid the frenetic energy of NYC, she embarked on her yoga teacher training—and although the classes left her creatively inspired and fulfilled, the era’s shapeless, tie-dyed yoga clothes were more befitting of a hippie head shop than the streets of Soho.
While packing up after one of her classes, Bree began to wonder about this disconnect. Why, she thought, shouldn’t activewear be as stylish as what women were wearing on city sidewalks? And why couldn’t everyday clothing be as comfortable and high-performance as exercise gear? She started daydreaming about a collection that would transport busy women like her from work… to a workout… to a night out. After making quick sketches in a notebook, she looked up and realized that she was right under a mural of Ganesha, the Hindu god of beginnings—a sign, she knew, that it was finally time to start her own line.
Since launching in 2011, Nesh NYC has grown into a full collection of functional fashion for women on the go. Though our yoga heritage makes up a large part of our DNA, we go beyond athleisure, with luxurious details you’d normally find only in high-end fashion collections. (We’re talking satin trim, washable cashmere, and patterns made with Italian precision for starters.) Plus, we use smart fabrics with four-way stretch, so our leggings move with you whether you’re doing sun salutations or chasing down a three-year-old. Most importantly, our clothes are designed for a 24/7 lifestyle, so you can stress less about getting dressed—and flow from gym to home to travel in one fell swoop.
SUSTAINABLE FROM THE START
There’s a lot of talk about ethics and sustainability these days. To us, they’re more than buzzwords. Since our inception, they’ve been the guiding principle behind everything we do. We source luxurious fabrics that are eco-friendly, sustainably harvested, made in the United States, and organic whenever possible. Instead of using cheap practices that pollute the air and water with iffy chemicals, we use nontoxic inks, dyes, and bleaching processes—which is why our clothes feel so good on your skin, and why they’re kind to the planet, too. Got questions about our commitment to the planet? Send us a message! We’d love to hear from you.
DESIGNED AND MADE IN NEW YORK CITY
There’s a reason we’re called Nesh NYC, not Nesh Some Random Place: We design and make everything here in New York City, using American fabrics and supporting local manufacturing. Not only do we think New York’s garment workers possess the best skills you’ll find anywhere, we also know the end result looks, fits, and feels better on your body. So if we need to tweak the fit of a legging or dress, we don’t have to order five different samples from an overseas factory. We just swipe our Metrocard and head to the garment district to work with our team—and our obsession with details means we won’t stop until it’s absolutely perfect, down to the last stitch.
