District Profile: Bella Neyman

Name: Bella Neyman
Business Affiliation + Job Title: Reinstein | Ross, Gallery Director
What do you do and how did you get here?
I curate the exhibitions in the gallery portion of Reinstein|Ross. R|R is a very unique place. Under one roof you can see beautiful high-karat gold jewelry being made and sold, while experiencing dynamic jewelry exhibitions in the only NYC venue dedicated to showing art jewelry.
What do you love most about Meatpacking?
Everything. I never spent too much time in the district prior to working here, but now that I am here, I do not want to leave. It’s not like other areas of the city where you want to run away as soon as the work-day is done. I love the vibrancy of the neighborhood and the quaint cobble-stone streets. And the neighborhood never shuts down. No matter what time you are here day or night, there is always something going on.
If you had a few hours to kill in the district, how would you spend them?
I would start by getting breakfast/lunch at Santina l then see an exhibition at the Whitney Museum followed by a walk down Gansevoort Street to Reinstein Ross for some jewelry. If it is past lunch then I would do this in reverse.
What is your favorite spot in the district to people watch?
Right from our floor to ceiling windows at Reinstein Ross. We are located at the corner of Gansevoort St. and Hudson Street which feels like the epicenter of the district.
Of all the personalities from the district (whether you know them or not), who would you like to share a cocktail with, and where?
I’d love to grab a drink with the people who used to live and work in the district when meat was being packed here. I hear stories all the time about the “old days” from folks that stop by the store and I would like to have a chance to sit down with them. I would go to the Biergarten at the Standard for a drink because its closest to the original meat markets.
