Name: Gina Angelacci
Title: Salon Owner / Hair stylist
Organization/Business: Gina Le Salon
Social: @ginalesalon
What do you do, and how did you get here?
I am a hairstylist and the owner of Gina Le Salon. I came to the Meatpacking District 17 years ago. Our salon recently celebrated 10 years in this space. Thirteen is my lucky number; I have a necklace from Doyle and Doyle with the number 13 on it, and I wanted to either live or work on 13th street. And here I am.
What do you love about Meatpacking?
Everything is here— fashion, food, the arts.
If you had 15 minutes, how will you spend it in the neighborhood?
Sit down outside the salon, at our summer bistro table, and take in the sounds and sights of 13th Street.
If you had a few hours, how would you ideally spend the day?
I would go to Exhale Spa for a massage and acupuncture by Ron, or go to Kore for a great one hour workout.
Where do you go to escape the crowds? People watch?
My apartment in Chelsea is a slice of heaven. I look forward to going home. Also exercise…I love to exercise. It’s a way of meditation for me.
Where will you recommend for a great cocktail or bite?
Scarpetta. I love everything! They change the menu every season. The wine and food are stunning. You lose your mind.
What’s your most memorable moment or experience in Meatpacking?
Starting a business here on my own. Now I’m a solo owner, and knowing that I could do it all on my own was an amazing feeling.
Of all the personalities you can think of (whether you know the person or not), whom would you want to grab a drink with?
Sally Hershberger. She’s very rock and roll and I would like to pick her brain. I would take her to Scarpetta and roll on up to the bar.
What should we know about you outside of work. Hobbies, life, that sort of thing?
I’m so happy to be a part of the Meatpacking District. The neighborhood really comes together and supports one another. It’s such a great thing.
