What do you do, and how did you get here?
I acquire and develop real estate in the greatest city in the world. I got here by being groomed by hard working, loving parents and brilliant mentors and then applying the magic of charm, persistence and luck.
What do you love about Meatpacking?
It’s by far my favorite neighborhood in the city due to its unique streetscape, the mix of historic and modern architecture, the energy, the culture, the shops, the restaurants and lounges, The Highline and The Whitney.
If you had 15 minutes, how will you spend it in the neighborhood?
I’d first try to clear my schedule to have at least an hour. But if that was absolutely not possible I’d stroll down Gansevoort Street to quickly dream about the amazing development our firm is about to embark on.
If you had a few hours, how would you ideally spend the day?
Breakfast at Bubby’s followed by a walkthrough of the development projects I’m involved in throughout the neighborhood, business meetings at the SoHo House, drinks and dinner at Catch.
Where do you go to escape the crowds?
One great place to escape is Kobrick Coffee, a new café and cocktail lounge on Ninth Ave. There’s no better coffee in Manhattan. The other is Valbella for a very special dinner in the pastry room. The food is phenomenal and the atmosphere is serene.
Where will you recommend for a great cocktail or bite? People watch?
I always recommend Catch. In my opinion, it’s simply the best restaurant to go to for a high quality meal with great cocktails and a fun, people watching atmosphere.
What’s your most memorable moment or experience in Meatpacking?
I’ve had many memorable moments in the Meatpacking District, but the most would have to be taking down the “for lease” sign on 21-27 Ninth Avenue after we closed on the properties. That was a thrilling, incredibly special moment as it took several years of incredible efforts to acquire the properties, our first in the neighborhood.
Of all the personalities in Meatpacking (whether you know the person or not), whom would you want to grab a drink with? And where?
Our partner Neil Bender, the heir and manager of the vast William Gottlieb Real Estate portfolio. He doesn’t drink, but if he did I’m sure we’d have a great time as he’s a very knowledgeable and funny man.
What should we know about you outside of work. Hobbies, life, that sort of thing?
My wife, dog and family are at the center of my universe. My hobbies include hiking, basketball and football. My favorite place to be is the Hamptons.
