What do you do, and how did you get here?
I have the pleasure of working for Sweden’s leading jewelry designer, Efva Attling, managing her US business out of the Meatpacking District. 5 years ago I was given the opportunity to venture into this role and industry from the beauty industry where I did marketing and brand management for some of the most prestigious luxury brands in the cosmetics industry including LVMH & La Prairie.
What do you love about Meatpacking?
I love the energy of the Meatpacking district. It’s a diverse destination and I’ve seen it develop tremendously over the past 12 years. Fashion & high heels walking the cobblestones, chic and unique retail, great restaurants, cultural destinations & art such as the High Line and the Whitney Museum– it has it all with the cool industrial downtown vibe.
If you had 15 minutes, how will you spend it in the neighborhood?
I usually begin the day with an almond latte at Kava Cafe and jumping up on the High Line for a walk up to 14th street which is always a great way to breathe in this special place. Especially in the spring/summer time before I head down to work on Little W 12th Street.
If you had a few hours, how would you ideally spend the day?
The Whitney Museum has great art exhibitions to offer with restaurants and terraces which are always nice to explore and walking the High Line while soaking in some sun and the views of the neighborhood. If it’s nice out I do enjoy going to the roof of the Soho House in the summer or have a hot toddy at their bar in the winter.
Where do you go to escape the crowds? People watch?
Top of the Standard is an all time favorite for people watching – here you can really catch 360 degree views of the city!
Where will you recommend for a great cocktail or bite?
You can find me often at the Standard Grill– their service and food always meet my expectations. The bar is great for a glass of white wine and oysters! Malaparte on Washington Street is also great– love the laid back Italian trattoria.
What’s your most memorable moment or experience in Meatpacking?
Launch party for the grand opening of Efva Attling’s first boutique in the US 5 years ago on 36 Little W 12th street. It was a successful evening and Uma Thurman made an appearance, as well! Also, my big birthday dinner at Macelleria with family and friends, the all time classic Italian restaurant that used to be here in Meatpacking District. They were both certainly unforgettable nights!
Of all the personalities you can think of (whether you know the person or not), whom would you want to grab a drink with?
There are many personalities in the Meatpacking that I would love to meet in person – Diane von Furstenberg would be on my list. She is an inspiring person who is so involved in the Meatpacking District where she has really established herself. The CEO for Google would also be interesting to meet as they are taking over more and more of the neighborhood.
What should we know about you outside of work. Hobbies, life, that sort of thing?
