DISTRICT PROFILE: WILLIAM FLOYD
February 28, 2016
Name: William Floyd
Title: Head of External Affairs, NY & NJ
Organization/Business: Google
Social: @wfloyd
What do you do, and how did you get here?
I am the head of external affairs for Google New York. I was hired almost four years but my connection to the community goes back much farther than that. After college, I lived on Jane Street and then moved to Chelsea, so I have lived in this neighborhood for over 25 years.
What do you love about Meatpacking?
The vibrancy of the street life, the creative energy of the neighborhood. It is the nexus of what is cool about New York right now: art, design, fashion, food, technology.
If you had 15 minutes, how will you spend it in the neighborhood?
Grabbing a latte and sitting at the 14th Street Triangle.
If you had a few hours, how would you ideally spend the day?
Shopping at the Chelsea Market, hitting the Whitney.
Where do you go to escape the crowds? People watch?
Given how popular the Meatpacking neighborhood is, escaping the crowds is tough. 14th Street Park is nice refuge, I have found.
Where will you recommend for a great cocktail or bite?
What’s your most memorable moment or experience in Meatpacking?
Walking on the street and being asked if I am Kevin Hart.
Of all the personalities in Meatpacking (whether you know the person or not), whom would you want to grab a drink with? And
where?
DVF in the Boom Boom Room of the Standard!
What should we know about you outside of work. Hobbies, life, that sort of thing?
In one word: Eli. (my 9 year old son)
