E-WASTE RECYCLING: MAY 11
May 2, 2018
Electronics are everywhere and nowadays, almost everything has an electronic component to it. And to keep up with the newest and the latest, we replace our electronics what feels like every other day. It begs the question: We vaguely know that there’s something bad about throwing them out, and trashing electronics is actually illegal, but what to do with them?
Recycle! And we’re making that easy!
It’s why most people have a dusty pile of electronics – computers, speakers, fax machines, batteries – under their bed or stashed in the rarely-opened supply closet. A part of you always thinks “I need to get rid of this sh**,” while the other half feels comforted by its presence. Kind of like that notebook you still have from high school or your ex’s sweatshirt. You don’t sleep in it anymore, but you also don’t toss it because you like knowing it’s there.
We’re in 2018, people. Let’s clean [electronic] house.
On Friday, May 11, from 11am-4pm, we’re partnering with the Lower East Side Ecology Center to give you the electronics waste clean-out opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
Grab your old electronics, pack that pile of batteries, and do right by the City and the environment: recycle! Meet us on the southwest corner of West 14th Street and Eighth Avenue and let the LES Ecology Center take care of it for you.
In addition to recycling it in the traditional sense, they do unique things with your old stuff, too: like running a used electronics store and a prop library for TV, film, and theater productions.
Come drop off the e-stuff on May 11. Everyone is doing it. It is entirely free and there is no limit to how much you can drop off!
What to recycle:
- Computers (any an all parts of them)
- Printers/scanners
- Phones
- TVs
- Phones
- Fax machines
- Keyboards
- Computer mouse(s)
- Cables
- VCRs/DVD players
- Audio/visual equipment
- Cell phones
- PDAs
- Speakers
- If it has an electronic component, BRING IT!
Special thanks to the Lower East Side Ecology Center and to City Council Member Corey Johnson for his support of this event.
