Meatpacking District Restaurants Rise Up + Give back with Holiday Hangover
January 12, 2017
With the snow beginning to fall and routines falling back into step, it’s that time of year where Manhattanites resettle back into the city they call home to generally hibernate for the winter months.
This January in the Meatpacking District, it won’t be just red wine that comes with feel good benefits. The district is providing a good reason to get up off the couch and warm up with a drink in support of the protection of human rights, just by sipping a cocktail.
“The Meatpacking District business community is a relatively small, but widely diverse group,” said Marisol de la Rosa, Managing Partner at Brass Monkey. “We have all seen how even small acts can make big differences in the lives of people in our neighborhood and the world around us.”
The nonprofit’s motto “because freedom can’t protect itself” aligns with the Meatpacking District’s commitment to excite and include its diverse visitors and dynamic community. ACLU stands up to preserve individual rights and liberties for freedom of speech, voting rights, and more.
“I’ve been giving regularly to legal advocacy groups over the years,” said Managing Partner at Foragers Table Anna Castellani. “While [this time in America] may be a particularly important time to give to the ACLU and groups like them, helping people navigate a very complicated legal bureaucracy always helps keep the system a bit fairer for all.”
Participants of Holiday Hangover created specialty drinks with empowering titles like Stronger Together (Brass Monkey) and Dream Girl (Lobby Lounge at Dream Downtown) to ignite connectedness.
The new year is a time to take action.
“As a small business [at Brass Monkey], we believe that by offering customers a way to support an organization that actively strives to defend individual civil liberties by the simple act of purchasing of a drink, we can do something small that will hopefully lead to something much greater for our community and the world,” said Marisol.
To show your support, visit the district’s line up of participating restaurants & bars and $1 from each selected drink will go to ACLU.
