No place like home for the holidays
November 19, 2020
The table may have fewer people this year, but that’s no reason to skimp out on Thanksgiving. Support your local shops for all your intimate 2020 gathering needs. On the upside of this year, that means more leftovers for you. Whether you’re planning on taking a break from your kitchen this holiday, or showing off all of the cooking skills you’ve learned this year, stay close to home and support your favorite NYC shops.
The Chelsea Local has everything you need to keep your kitchen stocked this holiday. Grab essentials for a cheese plate from Saxelby’s Cheese, pick up a selection of the finest fruits and veggies from Manhattan Fruit Market, and order THE turkey and sides from Dickson’s Farmstand. As the New York Times put it, maybe just get the Turkey Leg this year.
For more international options to add to your Thanksgiving/meal/dinner, the newly opened Pearl River Foods has all of your Asian grocery needs with hard to find produce, frozen dumplings, local artisan sauces, and more. For an Italian route, stop by Buon’Italia for freshly made pasta, antipasto platters, imported Italian cheeses, and an array of oils and vinegar. Pro-tip, if you’re looking to splurge on yourself, it’s white truffle season and the truffles are in stock at Buon Italia to take home.
Leave the sweet stuff up to Three Owls Market. Choose between a classic pumpkin pie, apple pie with brown sugar oat crumble, or a brown butter & espresso pecan pie. Grab one of their quiches for an easy, no-cook morning after breakfast.
Of course, no day in 2020 would be complete without wine. Chelsea Wine Vault in Chelsea Market put a short list together of wines that pair well with a Thanksgiving meal. If you didn’t catch last week’s episode of Meatpacking Unpacked, Little West Wine’s store manager Courtney Mckamey showed us how to properly open a bottle of bubbly and what champagnes work best for holiday meals. Grab a bottle while you prep and watch the episode here.
Not a big fan of pies or looking for a day after breakfast option? The saffron buns from Fabrique Bakery are the perfect alternative These seasonal treats are only available for the holiday season.
The holidays can be stressful, and this year is no different. Get some relief with CBD from TribeTokes.
Create the perfect holiday tablescape with Damselfy Designs in Chelsea Market. With bouquets called Pumpkin Pie and Sweet Potato Pie, you can’t go wrong. Set the table with a chocolate Place Setting Turkey from LiLac Chocolates. The tasty solid turkeys stand 3″ tall and add a fun twist to the tablescape. Throw in some candles from AYU, to make your space warm and bright and you’re done.
