Superfine! Art Fair Returns to the Meatpacking District
April 20, 2018
Led by co-founders and life partners Alex Mitow and James Miille, Superfine! – The Fair has welcomed a wider audience of art lovers to discover and ultimately collect art in a price bracket that redefines the art world norms without sacrificing quality or originality. Most of the work in the fair is under $5,000 (with a price cap of $10,000), and almost every exhibitor in the fair has something to offer between $100 and $1,000.
Superfine! hasn’t just opened doors for art-curious individuals–it has also broken down barriers for underrepresented arts professionals. Of this year’s fifteen international galleries and sixty-three solo artist projects, an overwhelming majority (70%+) are either women artists, gallerists, or both. To underscore this commitment to developing women artists, the fair has partnered with the Lower Eastside Girls Club to present an in-fair exhibition of works created by the organization’s teenaged artists. Artists of color, like Irvin Rodriguez or Jennifer Massenat, and LGBTQ+ artists, such as Russell Boyle or Julius DC Bautista, also enjoy their turn in the spotlight.
Every evening of the fair also promises to entertain with unique in-fair programming. The weekend kicks off early with a whimsical Wednesday night Twilight Vernissage, followed by a private Dim Sum Dinner Party on Thursday, the ever-delightful “Young” Collectors: Ice Cream and Cocktails Social on Friday, and a female-powered Girls’ Night Out (for Art!) on Saturday.
