The Lively Bringing Live Music Back to The Meatpacking District
March 21, 2016
The Lively, a new live music venue and night club inspired by artistic movements in New York City during the late 1970’s, just opened its doors in the Meatpacking District. The venue’s themed music programming combines elements of the late 70’s, with a live music portion from 5:00 – 10:00 PM and DJ sets from 10:00PM to closing at 4:00 AM, Wednesday through Sunday. Featured genres are house/dance, hip-hop, punk/rock and electronic.
“Artists and musicians are at the forefront of what The Lively represents,” says General Manager, Inigo Salazar. “The space is designed to feel like a music hall, where dancing is encouraged and easily generated. We wanted to bring the gritty, downtown vibe back to the Meatpacking District with affordable food and drink options – here, our guests will find their new local hangout.”
Creative Director and curator, Manny Del Castillo, along with associate, Emily Sands, helped conceptualize the space from branding to design and programming. Del Castillo and team created a venue that is both aesthetically pleasing and original. The simplistic yet sophisticated space highlights strong design features, such as Jean Purve-inspired stadium benches, high top standing tables, black and white checkered floor patterns and houses an impeccable sound system. Famed New York-based Artist Futura, and son 13th Witness, will be showcasing a father-son installation that exemplifies the DNA of New York City. Futura’s mural painted throughout the space highlights the unique underground architectural structures, while 13th Witness’ masterful photography, curated specifically for the space, displays his unique style of high contrast and color rich images.
The food and beverage program is also an integral part of the venue’s identity with Boozy Snow Cones inspired by kitschy classics. Flavors include the Pina Sno-Lada, The Rocket Bomb, Yuzo Ricky and the Mango Chill, which will be served on a rotating basis. Signature cocktails are inventive takes on late 1970’s classics, with playful names such as “The Salty Bitch” (Tanqueray Gin, Fresh Grapefruit, chili-salt rim), “An Offer You Can’t Refuse” (Dewar’s Scotch whisky, Amaretto di Saronno, Bacardi 8 Year Rum) and “The Grasshopper” (Solbeso, Green Crème de Menthe, Light Cream, Cocoa-Sugar rim).
Both the happy hour and late night menus feature bite-sized options for low-key dining. Notable Chef, Ivy Stark, has created “Hottie Pockets” exclusively for The Lively, which are house made and will be offered in both savory and sweet varieties including Cheese Burger, Cheddar Broccoli, BBQ Chicken and Apple Pie.
The venue is owned and operated by industry giant, BR Guest Hospitality. The Lively is located at 26 9th Avenue between 13th and 14th Streets in New York City. All major credit cards are accepted.
