Grammy nominated singer, performer and producer Theophilus London will DJ at this year’s OPEN MARKET. Theophilus cites influences that include Michael Jackson and Prince as well as Kraftwerk and the Smiths. His album Timez Are Weird These Days (2011) peaked at number 30 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart and Vibes, his next album, was executive-produced by Kanye West and released in 2014.
Aside from his musical skills, Theophilus is part of the district community and shares with us why he loves Meatpacking. Get to know more about Theophilus below, and join him at our epic indoor block party OPEN MARKET on March 9.
What do you love about Meatpacking?
The night life, the rush to get to your favorite bar, and also I love the cobbled streets.
If you had 15 minutes, how would you spend it in the neighborhood?
I would go use the bathroom at the Soho House.
If you had a few hours in district, how would you ideally spend the day?
I would go to the Dream Downtown Hotel, check in and order room service.
What should we expect from you music-wise at Open Market?
Electrifying and memorable!
Working any cool projects you want to share?
Wrapping up my new LP. Really excited about the first single Whiplash, which I wrote with Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker.
Outside of your music, what are you into, how do you spend free time?
I love watching films. I love dressing down and shopping uptown. I also like to give back to my community and fellow artists.
Of all the personalities in Meatpacking (whether you know the person or not), whom would you want to grab a drink with? And where?
I’d grab a drink with the head honcho Mazdack Rassi of all things Milk and catch up on how successful and game-changing Milk Makeup is.
